Wayne Smith is the absent father of Ra'Nell Smith and the ex-husband of Lisa Smith.
Biography[]
At some point, Wayne married Lisa, and the latter took his last name. In 1997, Wayne Smith fathered a son with Lisa named Ra'Nell. Wayne was a roadman with Leon, and the two ended up in jail together, though Leon later moved on from this life of crime. Wayne was known as an abusive father.
Sometime in 2010, Ra'Nell stabbed Wayne in the leg after he was beating on Lisa. It is unknown whether Wayne divorced Lisa and was already absent in their lives before or after the incident, but by March of 2011, Ra'Nell and Lisa were living alone in the Summerhouse Estate.
Season 1[]
Episode 1.1[]
Ra'Nell is walking down the street when Dris spots him. Dris asks Dushane's opinion on recruiting him into the gang. Dushane asks who Ra'Nell is, and Dris says he "shanked up his dad last year." Dushane responds, "That's Wayne Smith's kid?"
Later, Leon visits Ra'Nell at home after Lisa is admitted into hospital for a nervous breakdown. Ra'Nell is hostile towards Leon because he is a friend of his dad. Leon tells Ra'Nell he hasn't seen Wayne in a long time. Ra'Nell later tells Wayne he doesn't even know where his dad is staying.
Leon talks with Dushane about leaving Ra'Nell alone. Ra'Nell learns of this and calls Leon a hypocrite, having himself been a roadman with Wayne and even ended up in jail with him.
Episode 1.2[]
Leon visits Lisa in the hospital. Lisa asks if Leon ever sees Wayne and Leon says he does see Wayne from time to time. Leon implies Wayne has already found another woman, and that "if there's one thing Wayne couldn't do without is a woman." Lisa then asks if Wayne asks about Ra'Nell, though Leon says "Wayne ain't gonna change, Lise."
Episode 1.3[]
Ra'Nell is confiding into Heather about his dad. He tells her his dad always beat his mom. Ra'Nell also tells her about the time he stabbed Wayne; Wayne was choking Lisa in the kitchen when Ra'Nell stabbed him.
Episode 1.4[]
Leon visits Lisa. Lisa tells him it was Wayne who didn't allow her to have any friends.
