Date references[]
- The witness appeal board for Shaun Campbell's murder says he was last seen alive on the 9th of March, 2011. This establishes some of the events of Episode 1.2 on that date.
- In Episode 1.2, Pat asks Dushane to attend church with her on Sunday. At the start of Episode 1.3, Dushane and his mother are seen attending church. Outside, Sully tells Dushane he hasn't seen him "in like three days". This puts the start of the episode on 13 March 2011. The following day, Ra'Nell is seen in his school uniform.
- Season 2 begins one year after Season 1, within a week of Dushane's birthday, which is revealed to be 12 September in Season 3. This puts the events of Season 2 in September 2012.
- Dushane tells investigators his birthday was "Thursday" in Episode 2.1. This is most likely an oversight by the writers consulting a 2013 calendar (the year season 2 was produced; 12 September 2013 does land on a Thursday while 12 September 2012 does not). Regardless, it means the first episode takes place within a week after Thursday, 13 September 2012.
- Ra'Nell and Gem attend school the following day for five days, which would align with 17 September to 21 September 2012.
- CCTV footage puts the events of "The Squeeze" on 5 October 2019. The CCTV footage Jamie checks in the beginning of "Bad Eye" is dated the night of 7 October, indicating a time-skip and that the episode takes place on 8 October or afterwards. Some of the events of "You Don't Know Me" is dated 11 October 2019 on CCTV footage. The number of days and nights that seem to pass between the two episodes does align with this.
- In "Bruk Up", Lester says the day of the post office robbery is a Friday. Backtracking from The Squeeze puts the date as 27 September 2019, which is indeed a Friday.
- Season 4 seems to take place a few months later, as Stefan Tovell is now a Year 9 student. The police also reference Jamaal Green's murder as "last year".
- The witness appeal board for Ats Ayittey's murder says his body was found on "Tuesday the 12th". May is the only month of 2020 to have the 12th land on a Tuesday, which puts the events of Season 4 in that month.
- In "De Capa y Espada", Becks says Lauryn has been living with Jaq "almost a week" after she arrived at the end of "15 Points". Stef attends school this episode, skips school in "We Ride Out for Family", and doesn't attend school in "Prove Yourself" because it is likely the weekend. This means there was a time-skip and "De Capa y Espada" likely takes place on the 21st of May.
- The time skip at the end of "Prove Yourself" shows Aaron has attended his graduation ceremony (or was at least awarded his cap and gown), which usually take place in July. This also aligns with Lauryn giving birth to Delroy nine months after meeting Curtis in October. Tash still attends school in the episode "If We Are Not Monsters" and says today is a Thursday. This places some of the events of the episode no later than 16 July 2020. We will assume this date because it gives enough leeway for Aaron's graduation ceremony.
- "Birthday Party" takes place on a Friday which puts the events of the episode on the 10th of July. This implies a time skip between Dushane's death and Sully's death.
Time inconsistencies[]
- The police in Season 2 say Kamale went missing on the 10th of March, 2011; supposedly a day after Shaun was killed. However, it is established the events of Episode 1.3 take place on and after Sunday, the 13th of March 2011. This is likely an oversight by the writers of season 2.
- Dushane tells Sully in "Big Flame" he is 36-years-old. In 2019, Dushane would actually be 35-years-old, as the season finale revealed his birthday to be 12 September 1984.
