Ruben Michael Miller (born 14 January 1982) is a recurring character in the third and fourth series of Top Boy, portrayed by Theo Ogundipe. Ruben was a major associate of various drug gangs in and around Hackney, London, primarily supplying weapons and rental cars.
Months after a string of October 2019 murders connected to his business, Ruben was arrested and charged with conspiracy to murder, and provision of firearms with intent to endanger life. Ruben refused a plea deal to testify against Dushane Hill, and pled guilty to a lengthy sentence.
Biography[]
Ruben was born on the 12th of January, 1982. At some point during his life Ruben bought a large garage and began supplying weapons and rental cars to various drug gangs in around Hackney, London; namely the London Fields gang and the Summerhouse gang, which heavily rivaled each other. Ruben maintained a strict principle of neutrality in the overall drug war and refused to give information about gangs to other gangs, which developed his reputation in the criminal underworld as a reliable associate who did not pick sides.
Despite not pledging allegiance to any one gang, Ruben was a long-time friend of Dushane Hill, leader and co-founder of the Summerhouse gang. On one occassion, Ruben gave Dushane control to the CCTV of a rival gang leader's home, as a favor owing to their long history. Sometime in 2019 or 2020, Ruben fathered a son named Noah with an unknown woman.
Season 3[]
Episode 6: Press Gang[]
Sully and Jaq visit Ruben in his garage to rent one of his cars and buy his guns after Leyton tried to kill Sully after Jason's funeral.
Episode 7: The Squeeze[]
Ruben helps Jamie out by hacking into the CCTV cameras for Jamie to make sure Aaron & Stefan are safe. Kieron however is peeping through the Fields which will make him tell Dushane and Sully about it.
Episode 10: You Don't Know Me[]
Dushane visits Ruben to give him the CCTV information on Jamie's flat block, Ruben at first refuses but then insists on giving Dushane the device which Dushane uses to set up Jamie's brothers to get Jamie out the way for his drug empire.
Season 4[]
Episode 1: Good Morals[]
Ruben visits Dushane in his new apartment which he bought for him and Shelley. When Jaq, Kieron and Romy are stopped by the police, they tell him to be careful who's car they are driving in, they trace that Ruben is the car dealer that sold them the car and Sarah & Lee inform the police that Ruben sells cars to all the gangsters in Hackney. When Dushane is asking Ruben about the cars and weapons, he denies to him and say the police have nothing on him.
Episode 3: Likkle Favour[]
When Ats is murdered, he sends Dushane a video of Keziah MCing at a MC face off as he recognises her on the video of Ats' being kidnapped as Ruben knows the club promotor. While Ruben is sat with his son Noah, Ruben gets multiple messages on his answer phone with the police asking about him, the police bang on his door and Ruben quickly makes a run for it, Ruben knocks on Dushane's flat door and gives his son to Dushane and tells him that his sister will pick him up the next morning
Episode 4: Fully Loaded Headache[]
Ruben is eventually caught, Sarah and Lee go in Ruben's cell to see him, they ask him about all the youth gang members driving around in his car, Ruben then tells them that he wants to see his solicitor. Dushane hires Wilson Lee to represent Ruben. Sarah brings up Jamaal Green who was murdered outside a petrol station as he was a traced buyer for one of the cars rented by Ruben. Wilson Lee tells them that he wants to talk to Ruben alone. Wilson Lee tells Ruben to not say anthing and that the police are just trying to hustle him.
Episode 6: De Capa y Espada[]
Ruben stands in the court to get his bail hearing, Wilson Lee tells the court to let Ruben go out on bail as he is a single father and member of the strong community. Sarah walks to the stand to tell them that Ruben is affiliated with the Summerhouse, Fields & A-Roadz gang and tells them he is good friends with the local gag leaders. It denies Ruben's bail hearing.
Episode 7: We Ride Out for Family[]
Ruben decides to sack Wilson Lee as his solicitor and tell Sarah and Lee everything about Dushane and Sully starting with Bobby Raikes. He does it to get cleared from all the charges against him as a deal. Wilson Lee lets Dushane know about Ruben turning him in.
Episode 8: Prove Yourself[]
Junior goes to see Dushane and Sully about Ruben as his cousin is on the same cell block as him, Junior says he can get his cousin to kill Ruben, but then Junior's cousin is transferred to another prison which then Dushane visits Ruben and manipulates him to change his mind against Dushane. At the end Ruben re hires Wilson Lee and tells Sarah and Lee that he is not going to testify against Dushane or Sully. Ruben is then facing a long time in prison.
