If We Are Not Monsters is the sixth and final episode in the fifth season, the 32nd overall episode and the series finale of Top Boy.
Sypnosis[]
With Summerhouse in flames, Jaq tries to make things right. Dushane makes preparations to disappear, and Sully is confronted by a ghost in his past.
Plot[]
As the riot in Summerhouse continues the residents go in flats and throw everything out. Isaac lands in the Summerhouse estate.
Dushane gets a visit from Isaac. Isaac tells Dushane that he is going to Turkey and that he will be 100% safe there but tells him he needs to give him his money. Dushane tells him he will give him his money but hasn't got it. Dushane negotiates and tells him he will give it to him in a few hours. Isaac told Dushane when he is ready that he is to text "yes" to the number Wilson Lee gave him.
Sully rings Kieron to tell him to come and meet him while Kieron is at home watching the riot continue. Sully tells Kieron it was Jaq that robbed him, Kieron pretends to be shocked to cover his tracks. Kieron makes his way to meet Sully. Kieron says goodbye to Diana, she is worried about him going out due to the youths coming into her flat, he makes out to his mum he is going to meet Jaq. Kieron leaves the flat to meet Sully.
Jaq tells Becks that she is going to return the drugs back to Sully and that he will get a pass, Becks doesn't like the idea as she thinks Sully could change his mind and kill her. Jaq gets a call from Kieron about Sully telling him that she told him that it was her. Jaq tells Kieron not to stress himself and that its on her. Jaq leaves to meet Sully and then Becks tells Jaq that she loves her and that she is the strongest person she knows also too good for the drugs game. Jaq convinces to Becks that she will be home.
All the Summerhouse residents continue to fight off the police, Kieron quickly leaves the estate, Dushane hears a knock at his mum's house and its Shelley. Shelley hands him his cash and his passport. Dushane and Shelley talk about how they first met in here and talking about her, him and Tish. Dushane tells Shelley he loves her and Shelley tells her she loves him too. She also knows Dushane loves money and power more than he loves her. Shelley kisses Dushane and says she hopes he makes it alive and she walks off.
Stefan sits in his room with his gun, he attempts to leave his home but is stopped by Sheila as her and Iian want to keep the children inside due to the riot. Stefan kicks off and uses Erin as an excuse. Stefan comes in the living room and everyone is watching Summerhouse on the news. Stefan walks back in his room.
Sully and Kieron have a chat in the car and talk about lying to him about Si just to protect Jaq and knew all along. Kieron tries to plea his innocent and get scared as Sully gets angry at him. Junior grabs Kieron and kidnaps him and kills him. Sully receives a text message from Sully telling him to meet him at the community centre at 8pm and also texts Dushane the same. Dushane gets his gun ready. Dushane leave his mother's flat and says "goodbye mum".
Riot still continuing, Sully enters the community centre, Mandy looks at him weirdly. A woman offers Sully soup and he says no. Jaq is driving making her way to the community centre, Dushane also making his way, Dushane sees Jaq and tells her to hand him the drugs. Jaq refuses as she wants to hand it to Sully. Dushane knocks her out and takes the drugs away. Sully sees Jaq in the community centre, Sully gets angry at Jaq as Jaq told her Dushane robbed the drugs off her. Sully told Jaq why she is not getting any pass and tells her that he had Kieron killed. Mandy comes over to see Jaq, Jaq asks Mandy if she has seen Kieron, mandy tells her no and what has happened. Jaq walks off.
Dushane is running off, he texts "yes" to Isaac. Dushane tells Isaac he will give him 15 kilos of the drugs if he gets him out.
Erin texts Stefan asking him she is ignoring her as Stefan is looking on the internet on his phone on the riot. Erin then texted him 2 negative emojis and Stefan throws his phone away.
Sully is running as he goes after Dushane. Sully rings Junior to tell him to meet him at Summerhouse.
Jaq is walking through Summerhouse, she goes to knock on Kieron's door to see if Kieron is home, Diana tells her that she thought he was meeting her, Jaq runs off and leaving Diana panicking. Jaq sits down grieving of what happened that Kieron really got killed.
Dushane gets a call from Isaac saying he wants 20 kilos, Dushane declines at first and then accepts the deal. Isaac sends his men to pick up Dushane. Dushane hides in a house somewhere whilst the riot comes on. Sully and Junior go on their hunt for Dushane. Bradders, Rowmando and Samsi make their way to see the riot, Sully stops them. Sully tells them to look out for Dushane. Sully gives Bradders the gun and tells him to shoot him when he sees him and take the 25 kilos drugs and bring it back to him.
The fire brigade come in and the residents start rioting at them. Sully and Junior continue their search for Dushane. As Dushane is hiding Dris' flat, Isaac texts him saying that his men are on their way, a few youths come in to burn the flat until Dushane scares them away by threatening them with a gun. Dushane rings up Isaac, Isaac tells them they are going to be another 20 minutes. Dushane tells him to tell them to meet him at disused garage at South entrance in 15 minutes. Sully and Junior go into Dushane's mum flat looking for Dushane. Dushane tries another way to escape them as the stairwell has been blocked.
Samsi, Rowmando and Bradders walk round Summerhouse as they are looking for Dushane. Sully and Junior spot Dushane and chase after him. Dushane starts firing his gun at them to get away easy. Bradders pulls out the gun, Dushane then shoots Bradders to death and gets away. Rowmando and Samsi start crying as Rowmando tells Bradders to "stay with us". Sully and Junior continue to chase Dushane. Isaac's men apporach Dushane to save him, Junior shoots one of Isaac's men and then Junior gets shot, then Sully shoots Isaac's other henchman that killed Junior.
Sully chases after Dushane at a dead end. Dushane throw the drugs over and climbs up. Sully shoots Dushane in the hip. Whilst Dushane is suffering from the gunshot wound Sully and Dushane have a final conversation, with Sully getting mad when Dushane tells Sully that he does respect him because Sully always thought he was the younger brother model to him. Sully tells Dushane that "if we are not monsters, then we're food and I will never be food". Dushane instantly dies and Sully climbs over to get the drugs back that Dushane took and then goes away letting Dushane's corpse rot.
Jaq goes back home to Becks as she is asleep, becks wakes up seeing Jaq. Becks sleeps Jaq on the couch, Jaq tells Becks everything is going to be OK.
Before going on the hunt for Sully, Stefan sits on the bench where he use to sit with Jamie & Aaron sharing his memories back when they all lived together. Stefan leaves the bench and chases up Sully.
Sully visits Tash on her way to school and tells her he is not going to be around for a while. Sully tells Tash that he can text and call him anytime she wants. Tash tells Sully that she worries about him all the time. As Tash makes her way to school, Sully is walking across and notices Stefan is on to him. Stefan pulls a gun to him and asks him how does he feel, Sully tells Stefan that feeling left him a long time ago and that he had to kill Jamie. Stefan changes his mind and lets Sully live after telling Sully that he is not worth it.
Sully gets back in his car with the bag of drugs and chuckles to himself as he thought he was the last man standing until an anonymous character comes in and shoots Sully in the head. The ending turns to pitch black.
