Episode 2 is the second episode of the second season and the 6th overall episode of Top Boy.

Synopsis[]

While visiting the injured Joe, Dushane discovers who stole their drugs. Meanwhile, Mike and Sully botch a hit, and a police witness threatens to destroy Dushane and Sully. Gem discovers what it means to be in debt, and Jason makes enemies on the Summerhouse Estate.

Plot[]

Sully and Mike are at a studio. A man named Tony offers them a hit, with the price 10k – 5k for him and 5k for those two. Sully asks what he’s doing for his share and he replies he’s introducing the work. Sully bargains with him to get 9 for them and 1 for him. Tony says the hit is on Jermaine Newton. Mike asks Sully if he knows him, to which he replies it’s his cousin.

Dushane visits Joe in hospital. Joe tells him the Albanians took the drugs.

Gem speaks with his father. Mr. Mustapha tells him that they may have to move to Ramsgate as the rents are lower there. Gem walks with Ra’Nell to school but Vincent is waiting for him. Vincent speaks to him and gives him a package to keep in his locker then deliver, before meeting him at the shop.

Michael, R-Marni and Nevaeh are discussing who killed Kamale. Michael passes drugs to a customer as Nevaeh mentions her cousin is working in the trainer shop and he says they can take anything they like.

Dris walks past and asks Shaheed where the youngers are, and he tells him to get them to come back so they should be working. Dris then tells Dushane about the Albanians’ warehouse by the canal. Trevor pulls up with Ninja and asks Dushane where his drugs are.

Nevaeh’s cousin Rufus is working in the shop and passes the trainers Michael wants to Nevaeh. R-Marni tries to distract the manager as the other two run out, but he notices and gives chase. However, Michael is grabbed by a security guard and taken into custody by the police. He is found with crack cocaine and heroin as Coleman, Leko and Trovell question him about the drugs.

Michael accidentally lets slip that the drugs belong to Dushane, who is staking out the Albanians’ warehouse. After pressure from the police about his mother and little brother getting into trouble as a result of his truancy, Michael begins to give more details to them about other incidents.

Dris and Shaheed are questioning Nevaeh and R-Marni. Dushane arrives and asks what’s going on. Dris explains that Michael has been arrested. Dushane makes Nevaeh give her phone and the trainers to Shaheed. Dushane is angered that the two youngsters left Michael, and Shaheed is annoyed that they showed him up.

Sully and Mike are discussing the hit on Jermaine. They see him in the pub and Sully calls him over, explaining to him that a hit is put on him. Jermaine thanks them but Sully wants £20k from him to reverse the hit. The two force him to their car but Sully spots Jason. When he goes to get his phone back, Jermaine punches Mike and tries to escape. Sully catches up with him however and gets him in the car as Jason escapes.

Michael shows Trovell and Leko the house where Kamale was taken from, which was Kayla Thomas’ house. They offer him protection but Michael refuses.

Ra’Nell is at his trial as Gem delivers the package. Lisa tries to contact the landlords and the church commissioners about the developers. She is unsuccessful. Ra’Nell visits Lisa and Zoe and tells them about the trial, as Lisa and Zoe try to avoid their business’ eviction from the street.

Gem goes to Vincent’s shop. Vincent gives Gem some cigarettes. Gem tries to leave but Vincent pulls him back and smacks him. He says until Gem pays him back he owns him and he must go to him when he calls him.

Dushane meets Rhianna at the club before going back to her flat and having sex with her.

Jermaine rings his brother Rafe and asks him to sell his car to help pay off the money to Sully and Mike. Jermaine says he’s hungry, as is Mike, so Sully rings his old number as Jason picks up.

Dushane and Rhianna are laying in bed. He says he likes her place and tells her about his flat on the canal. She questions him whether he really owns it as it’s not in his name. She asks if he’s bothered about having no security – no car or property in his name. He says he’s from Summerhouse, from the day he was born he was told he can’t have anything, and he thinks he’s doing alright.

Jason arrives at the house where Sully and Mike are holding Jermaine with pizza. Jermaine says he needs the toilet, so Mike takes him upstairs. Sully says to Jason he’s lucky he didn’t shoot him, and the youngster just shrugs his shoulders in reply.

Mike watches Jermaine at the toilet, but Jermaine tells him to move. Mike refuses, so Jermaine hits him and pushes him into an empty bathtub before making a break for it. However, the door is locked, and Sully catches up with him before he and Mike beat him violently as Jason eats pizza in the background.

Dushane and Rhianna talk. He tries to get her to stay instead of going to work, as he tells her about his past and his headteacher telling him he would never amount to anything. Rhianna says she worked hard after her Dad left to get where she was, and Dushane is “king of a shithole”.

Dushane watches over the crew at Summerhouse. Michael returns and the others ask him questions about what happened. Dushane summons him over to talk to him. He asks him what they asked him, and what did he respond. Michael says he told them “no comment” like Dushane told him. Dushane gives Michael some money and tells him to go and do his thing. Dushane speaks to Dris about the Albanian place, and he think it’s time he and the others paid them a visit.

Nevaeh tells Michael that she had to give the trainers to Shaheed after Dushane was angry. She apologises to him and R-Marni for taking them stealing and she’d never seen Dushane so annoyed. A customer walks over and asks for ten on ten, and passes £100 to Michael. Michael walks back to Shaheed and Nafisa to collect the drugs, but on his way back Jason, who was lurking in the market, shoves him over and takes the drugs.

Joe is in the hospital and vomits in a cardboard container. Dushane passes him some tissues and asks him how the Albanians knew about the shipment. Dushane says he won’t let them get away with it, but Joe says to let him go as they’re killers. Dushane asks why isn’t he dead then, and Joe laughs.

Jason returns home and gives the drugs he stole from Michael to his mum. She asks him where he got them, and she tells him she loves him, before taking them.

Dris and Nafisa are with Dris’ daughter Erin as she picks a stuffed toy to take to bed. Shaheed tells Dris it’s time to go. Dris says to him to come give Erin a kiss, as she hides her face behind her toy monkey. Nafisa laughs as the two leave.

Gem phones Ra’Nell, and says it’s like he’s Vincent’s slave. Lisa comes home and Ra’Nell tells her about Gem moving to Ramsgate. She says the landlords are ripping the community apart.

Leko and Trovell arrive at a house with some policemen and ask the man does Kayla Thomas live there. He says she doesn’t and he’s only lived here four months, but Leko produces a warrant to search the house and the officers enter.

Sully and Mike watch over a bloodied and bruised Jermaine. The latter mentions someone called Danny Waterhouse has died, and he thinks someone he knows dies every week. Mike says the government are putting stuff in people’s food which is killing the normal people like them. As the two discuss it Sully complains and says Rafe better be selling his car.

A man comes to Rafe in the club and asks him if he’s seen him recently, as he’s been kidnapped.

Meanwhile, Dushane, Dris and Shaheed are staking out the Albanians. They notice the brothel nearby and see some of their gang members entering the premises. Shaheed thinks they should come back another night with some more men, and Dushane says they need to hit them hard and think about it properly.

Trovell asks an officer if he has found anything in the house, and he says it’s too early to say. She replies they need to find Kayla Thomas urgently.
