Curtis was a weapons dealer whose gang operated in Liverpool. He was the sociopathic boyfriend of Lauryn Lawrence and the father of her son Delroy. After Lauryn fled London for unwittingly being responsible for an assassination attempt on Gerard Sullivan, she began to live with Curtis and his abusive sister Vee in Liverpool.
After months of mistreatment, a pregnant Lauryn escaped back to London and eventually murdered Curtis when he and his gang came searching for her in Hackney. Curtis served as an antagonist in the fourth season of Top Boy. He is portrayed by Howard Charles.
Biography[]
Curtis was an arms dealer based in Liverpool. His gang included his sister Vee, an equally sociopathic woman, and a man called Speaks. Lauryn Lawrence's ex-boyfriend Leyton was a rival gang member of Summerhouse leader Gerard "Sully" Sullivan". Via Lauryn, Leyton learned Sully planned to visit a cemetery, though Leyton and Sully's cousin Jermaine Newton botched the assassination attempt.
Lauryn confessed to her sister Jaq she is the snitch the gang is looking for, where Jaq then advised her to leave London before anyone in the gang found out. Eventually, Lauryn found herself with Curtis and the two started a relationship, though Curtis and his sister would be abusive to Lauryn during her short time in Liverpool. By May 2020, Lauryn was heavily pregnant with Curtis' son.
Season 4[]
He is first seen with his friend Speaks and sister Vee cleaning a batch of weapons. Lauryn, who is heavily pregnant, walks in disturbed by what she seen and berates Curtis about having the weapons in their home. His sister Vee gets angered by this and starts to belittle her, to the dismay of Curtis. She leaves the room upset, and Curtis then comforts her, though it comes across he is manipulating and controlling everything she does.
Lauryn then arranges to meet her sister Jaq's who arrives from London and pleads with her to help because she hates living with Curtis and his sister, who seems to despise her. Jaq's promises to help her, but the visit was then cut short as Curtis rings Lauryn demanding where she is and times her from where she supposedly is and how long it would take her to get back to his house.
Lauryn becomes overwhelmed by the controlling nature of Curtis and plans to escape. She tells Curtis she needs new clothes and underwear because of the pregnancy nothing will fit her; he eventually comes around and agrees but only if he goes with her, taking Vee and Speaks with him. When they get to the store, Lauryn convinces Curtis she needs to go in on her own as she is embarrassed by her body and does not want to be seen by him and definitely not by Vee, so he reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, Curtis, Vee, and Speaks are engaged outside the shop talking. Lauryn takes the opportunity to run out the fire exit and escapes, but not long before Vee discovers she is gone. They then begin to pursue her, but she manages to get away in a taxi which takes her back to London.
A furious Curtis then rings Jaq's off Lauryn's phone but with Lauryn hiding. Jaq's pretends to think it is Lauryn who rings her and pretends to be concerned of her whereabouts until Curtis begins to talk. Curtis and crew then head to London asking around of Lauryn's whereabouts but comes up with nothing; he then heads to Shelly's nail salon and begins to interrogate Niomi as he knows Shelly is Lauryn's best friend, but she tells him nothing. Jaq's pleads with Dushane for help, but he reluctantly agrees and arranges to meet Curtis in the cafe. When they do, Dushane tells him Lauryn wants nothing to do with him and should spare his dignity and go home. Curtis, calmly enraged, smiles and leaves.
Curtis and his crew decide to get back at Dushane and steal a batch of drugs from a storehouse that was guarded by 2, Samsi and Bradders. They proceed to beat them and steal it. Later on, he video calls Dushane telling him if Lauryn is not returned he will slowly burn the batch the longer she is away burning one package as an example but Dushane though bothered doesn't seem to break. Curtis Vee and Speaks decide then to shoot up Shellys nail salon from the inside with Shelly inside.
Jaq's turns up to notify Dushane, who runs to the salon to find a distraught Shelly. He then devises a plan to kill Curtis by using Jaq as bait, in which she rings Curtis to tell her she will give him Lauryn so a truce can be called, but in reality, this was a setup and Vee tried to warn Curtis that it is so, but Curtis has a counter plan to kidnap Jaq as leverage to get Lauryn. As Vee, Curtis, and Speaks head to meet Jaqs, Lauryn rings him to tell him to not go, that it is a setup, and Curtis and her arrange to meet in the flat. Curtis then goes off on his own to meet Lauryn; they embrace, but he tells her calmly that he, her, and the baby are a family while holding her neck gently but in a threatening manner. She then plunges a knife into his side and chest; they have a struggle. Curtis tries to fight back, but Lauryn overpowers him, and Curtis weakens from bleeding out, and she lands a fatal blow to his neck and then becomes hysterical. As Jaq's, Dushane, and others turn up, she is still in hysterics and unresponsive. Dushane then has the body of Curtis destroyed in a car crusher. Sully then rings Vee and told her of his demise, to her devastation, and that it was best for her to forget him and go back to Liverpool.
